Programs

Each school day provides children with a variety of experiences that are child-directed and teacher-guided in an inviting and pleasurable environment.

A thematic approach to curriculum is used in which activities are organized around a topic, allowing children to be exposed to new ideas, develop new skills, or practice acquired abilities. During activity time, children have an opportunity to pretend through socio-dramatic play and use construction materials and manipulatives. Children may explore a variety of art media to encourage creativity and fine motor skills. Themes, which incorporate pre-math, science, and literacy skills, are integrated into each activity time.

Daily group time includes a story, music, rhythmic movement, rhymes, and fingerplays. The theme or lesson of the day is discussed at this time.

In addition to an active learning environment, physical activity is offered in our gym or on our playground when weather permits.

The Threes Program is held twice weekly, in the morning. Children learn to function in a school setting and to socialize cooperatively with classmates. They are taught school routines and transition skills. Independence and confidence in meeting their own needs, following directions, making simple decisions, and becoming self-directed are encouraged. The children are exposed to literacy, science, and pre-math concepts.

The Fours Program is held three days weekly, in the morning. Children learn to function in a classroom setting, demonstrating appropriate consideration of other children, respect for the teacher, and self-control. Children are exposed to language activities and early writing concepts. They also experience hands-on science activities and creative art projects and use manipulatives to practice pre-math skills. Creative art experiences are offered daily in addition to stories and music.

The Pre-K Program is held Monday through Friday, in the afternoon. A literacy emphasis emerges from a theme-based curriculum. The children are exposed to letters, letter sounds, reading readiness, and beginning writing skills. Children will have extended experiences with pre-math skills, science, and the creative and aesthetic areas of music and art. Personal maturity, responsibility, self-control, respect for others, and cooperation are stressed.

This program is designed for children who will be attending kindergarten the following year. A five half-day program is an excellent transition to full-day kindergarten.
